Taiwan Telecom Operators to Spend US$515 Mln in Mobile Broadband Expansion

The three major telecom operators in Taiwan, Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, and Far EasTone, plan to invest more than NT$15 billion (US$515.5 million; US$1=NT$29.1) in 2011 to tap increasing demand for mobile broadband services in Taiwan, according to a February 8, 2011 report by the Commercial Times of Taiwan. It is reported that the operators plan to offer Internet access speed of 21Mbps and construct 42Mbps networks by the end of 2011. The three companies are projected to launch a multilayer-fee system based on mobile service levels by the first half of 2011. The system is currently pending for final approval by the NCC (National Communications Commission) of Taiwan.
